Icebreaker: Hodgy Podgy Instructions:  Hodgy Podgy is a simple yet very fun rhythm game.  Stand in a circle.  Choose a person who will start the round.  He or she starts to clap a relatively slow 4 beat rhythm. Everyone in the circle matches the rhythm set by the leader.  To start each round, the leader says (while clapping to the rhythm, one beat per word), “Hodgy podgy, hodgy podgy, hodgy podgy, hodgy podgy!” The leader starts a sentence by saying any word on the one beat (for example, he or she could say the word “Big” as he or she slaps their legs on beat one).  The next person in the circle must continue the story by adding the next word in the sentence by the first beat of the next rhythm cycle (for example, the 2nd person could say “dogs,” so the sentence is now “Big dogs..”).  Repeat until everyone gets a turn.

  6. “The Banana Song” You got to pick bananas, pick, pick bananas. You got to peal bananas, peel, peel bananas. You got to slice bananas, slice, slice bananas You got to eat bananas, eat, eat bananas. You got to GO bananas, go, go, BANANAS!

  12. Key Ideas and Summary page 106 TCE • Children are surrounded by visual images from an early age • Visual images help second language learners to comprehend vocabulary and concepts. • Visual aids include pictures, digital stories, real items, a teacher’s gestures, posters, and picture books.

Make Your Own Visual Bookpages 108-109 TCE • Work individually to create your own Farm Vocabulary book base on the “Farmer in the Dell Song” • Identify at least eight farm vocabulary in the songs and create a page and picture for the farm vocabulary words: • Suggested words: Farmer dell cat dog cow sheep horse corn rice soybeans tractor pitchfork chickens
