Functional Enhancements G7 Compliant Proofing System, Proof & Greyscale Verification • G7 is understood as an industry standard process in North America. Although G7 is a process and not a product, customers are asking for a “G7 Proof” or a “G7 Proofing System”. • With XF 4.5 PP3 users can validate individual jobs and the complete printing system: • Jobs: If GRACoL, SWOP 3 or SWOP 5 proof passes, it can be called a “G7 Contract Proof” • Jobs: If a job passes the greyscale tolerances and criteria, it can be called a “G7 Greyscale Compliant”. • System: If a Printing system passes, it can be called a “G7 Compliant Proofing System”. • The implementation has been done in accordance with the G7 Pass/Fail Requirements Specification
Functional Enhancements Market first! • EFI XF 4.5 is the on the market that supports a G7-conform analysis of… • G7 contract proof • G7 greyscale compliant • G7 Compliant Proofing System …including the new validation of NPDC and Grey Balance criteria. firstsolution
Functional Enhancements Job: “G7 Contract Proof Verification” • Each proof must be printed together with the IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control strip • The control strip is measured and verified against the GRACoL, SWOP 3, or SWOP 5 characterization data set using the “G7_ISO12647-7 Contract Proof” criteria and tolerances • EFI XF 4.5 currently is the only solution that can validate the NPDC (neutral print density curve) and Grey Balance criteria according to the G7 Pass/Fail requirements specification • If the proof meets or exceeds the tolerances the proof can be called a “G7 Contract Proof”
Functional Enhancements System: “G7 Compliant Proofing System” • An IT8.7/4 random chart must be printed together with the IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control strip • The IT8.7/4 random chart is measured and verified against the characterization data set for either GRACoL, SWOP 3, or SWOP 5 using the “G7_ISO12647-7 Proofing System” criteria and tolerances • The IDEAlliance control strip is measured and verified against the GRACoL, SWOP 3, or SWOP 5 characterization data set using the “G7_ISO12647-7 Contract Proof” criteria and tolerances • If the proof meets or exceeds the tolerances of both verifications the proofing system can be called a “G7 Compliant Proofing System”.
Functional Enhancements Job: “G7 Greyscale Compliance” • G7 greyscale compliance confirms that a print matches the basic G7 definition of constant neutral grayscale appearance independent of the printing reference that is used • Each proof or print must be printed together with the IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control strip • The control strip is measured and verified against any characterization data set using the “G7 Greyscale Compliance” criteria and tolerances • If the proof or print meets or exceeds the tolerances the output can be called “G7 Greyscale Compliant”
Functional Enhancements ISO 15311 Support • What is ISO 15311? • ISO for Digital Production Printing (not Proofing) • Currently in “draft”-state • Use case orientated ISO that is printing technology-independent • Addresses two use cases: • 15311-2: Digital Commercial Printing (Small Format Printing) • 15311-3: Large Format Signage Printing
Functional Enhancements ISO 15311 Support • What is supported in XF? • First implementation to verify the conformance level (A, B, C or failed) of Four Color References (FCR) Side-by-Side as defined in the ISO 15311-2 & 3 NWIP (new work item proposal) from Sep 2011 • What steps need to be done in XF? • For the practical print assessment the printout has to be printed with an ISO 15311-2 & 3 compliant control strip (such as Ugra/Fogra or IDEAlliance) • The control strip has to be measured and verified against the characterization data of the printing reference using the “ISO15311-2 or 3 FCR-Side-by-Side Level Media Wedge” criteria and tolerances and dE2000 • Step 1: Verification with the preset “Level A Media Wedge“. If this verification fails: • Step 2: Re-measuring with the preset “Level B Media Wedge”. If this verification fails again: • Step 3: Re-measuring with the preset “Level C Media Wedge”. If this verification fails, the printout is not ISO15311-2 or 3 FCR-Side-by-Level A, B or C compliant
Functional Enhancements ISO 15311 Support • What extended steps can be done in XF? • For the extended scrutiny of the entire color gamut an ISO 12642-compliant color chart (e.g., IT8.7/4) needs to be measured and verified against the characterization data of the printing reference using the “ISO15311-2 or 3 FCR-Side-by-Side Level Chart” criteria and tolerances and dE2000 • The analysis steps are identical to the practical print assessment analysis steps • Depending on the verification results the printout is ISO15311-2 or 3 FCR-Side-by-Level A, B or C compliant or non-compliant
Functional Enhancements JMPA Color Version 3 Support • JMPA (Japan Magazine Publishers Association) announced a new standard for publications and advertisements in magazine printing as JMPA Color Version 3 • Vendors have been provided with a JMPA v3 vendor kit to create an ICC reference profile • XF now provides • an ICC reference profile called “EFIJMPA3” • a proofing workflow template called “JMPA3” • the possibility to verify against the JMPA3 characterization data using the Ugra/Fogra media wedge 3.0 or IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control strip • the possibility to perform an optimization against the JMPA3 characterization data
Functional Enhancements White layer creation for VUTEk printers • Improve the saturation and vividness of your job colors on any media with EFI VUTEk’s white ink! • Let XF dynamically create white layers for you! • Eliminate the need for manually created layers in your DTP! • Where to find the new functionality • “Output Device” -> “Special tab” • Supported print modes: • Spot color WHITE_INK • Inked Image • Bounding Box • Off • (if you manually created a white layer in your job) • (generates a white layer based on job-specific colors) • (generates a white flood within the bounding box) • (does not create white output separations at all)
White ink printing mode: “Inked image” White layer automatically created by EFI XF Job data only Job printed on dark media Job + white layer “Reduced saturation and vividness” “Improved saturation and vividness on same media without any use of a DTP app”
Functional Enhancements • Control your EFI VUTEk white channel! • Go to Color Manager -> Visual Correction • Choose the category “Re-Linearization” at the top and “Spot color” on the left side of the user interface and then define your curve. • This curve provides direct control over the white channel gradation of your EFI VUTEk printer.
Functional Enhancements Custom light & norm ink builds for all EFI VUTEk printers • “Light/norm ink build” step • Print and measure a chart with combinations of light and norm ink • Optionally import saved measurement data in any order – it will automatically be sorted to the proper channels • EFI Color Manager automatically calculates ink limits and linearization curves for the largest possible gamut on any media! • Now based on an optimized smaller chart with only 130 patches per channel for quick results! • The resulting ink limits and linearization curves can be adjusted by the user through the following “Physical Ink Limit” step
Functional Enhancements Alignment of Nestings • Adjust the alignment of your Nestings under Layout -> Job Layout
Functional Enhancements Alignment of Step & Repeats • Adjust the alignment of your Step & Repeats under Layout -> Job Layout • Go to Layout -> Job Layout and set up the alignment • Go to Layout -> Step & Repeat and set up your step & repeat • If you change the alignment, click on “Apply” again in the Step & Repeat tab
Functional Enhancements Support of the PANTONE FASHION + Home library • EFI XF 4.5.3 nowincludesthe PANTONE FASHION + HOME spotcolordefinitionsbased on worldwideavailablecolorformulationsfor… • Cotton („TCX“) • Paper („TPX“) • Nylon (TN)
Functional Enhancements Verification of single pages in multipage documents • XF now provides the option to divide multipage PDF documents into single page jobs to apply individual settings (wedges, verification, color management, layout, etc.) to each page! 4 page PDF document „Divide multi-page PDF filesintosinglepagejobs“ deactivated: Single jobwithfourpages: „Divide multi-page PDF filesintosinglepagejobs“ activated: Fourjobswithsinglepages:
