Introduction • My Family never had a lot of money when I was growing up, so I had to come up with some creative ways to make a buck until I was old enough to get a job. • What are some ways you guys were able to make money until you were old enough to get a job? • What are some of the things you like spending your money on? • We’ll also discuss why it’s important to set goals, even if it’s small ones.

So what do we need money for? • In my Word Document Titled “Money Management 101”, I used the $100 example • If you had $100 dollars right now, what would you spend it on? • I know what I would Buy, more airsoft guns and supplies

But Maybe you boys would rather spend your money on things like these…. • A New Bike • A Model Airplane • A Remote Controlled Car • Summer Boy Scouting Trip • A Video Game • Movie Night With Friends • A Pet Reptile • Bowling With Friends • Halloween Costume • Laser tag With Friends • A Birthday Present

What about you girls, what do you like to spend your money on? Getting your hair done Going out for ice cream with your friends Buying the newest ‘Twilight’ book Getting some new makeup Increasing your newly discovered shoe collection Buying extra texts per month Movie night with the girls More clothes…

But what if I’m too young to get a real job…..? • You could shovel snow from driveways around your neighborhood • Perhaps babysit for families you know • Start a “landscaping service” to mow lawns in your neighborhood • Possibly have a bake sale during lunch at school • Start a “dog-walking service” in the afternoons • Pursue a craft that you can sell at local community events or over the internet • Contact local businesses, offer to make flyers and promote their company

Or you could start a dog-washing service….

So now that I’m old enough for a job, where should I look? • There are a lot of places that are willing to hire someone without actual experience, you just need to know where to look. • Think about places you like spending your money. Hey, you may even get an employee discount if you work there!!! • Movie Theatres • A Book Store • A Toy Store • The Arcade • A Hobby Store • A Clothing Store

Although you may be making money, it’s important to see what you’re spending in the process. Here’s an example of the money spent to run a bake sale

Or suppose you’re saving for a car. Here’s a spreadsheet of what a car payment may look like…..

It’s important to set goals for saving though. You may end up wanting something more expensive some day…… • Like a car • Or even a motorcycle • Perhaps a new computer • An Ipod • A house someday • Christmas presents • Or that new sports car you’ve had your eye on
