This image is of plates from plate tectonics converging. When plates converge they crash together. This can cause earthquakes and tsunamis. The older crust usually gets pushed down or farther away when this happens. As shown in the picture the lithosphere crash together as they float on the asthenosphere.
Pangea is an example of plate tectonics. Pangea was believed to once have been a large land mass of all the continents. These plates then moved apart, diverged. Then went together, converged. And slide past each other, transformed. To make the continents of today.
This picture shows transform boundry. This is when two plates slide past each other horisontally. This cause a large amount of friction. Tectonic plates have irregular edges. They grind together and jerk as they slide. The friction and the movement can cause earthquakes.
This picture shows plate tectonics diverging, or pulling apart. When this happens the new plates are closest to the falt line and the older plates get pushed away. Diverging plates can make underwater valleys. These plates separate very slowly some only a centimeter a year. Magma fills up through the falt.
This is another picture of the location of different plates. But this map shows where volcanoes are compared to the plates. This map shows that the volcanoes are located mainly on the tectonic plates. The ring of fire is located all around plates. So I think that tectonic plates affect where volcanoes are.
