What is Internet Addiction Disorder ● The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-V (DSM-V) enlists this excessive usage of the internet as an addiction disorder. ● Psychiatrists have begun to see a large number of teenagers afflicted with the internet addiction disorder. ● This is a very common problem faced nowadays. Particularly occurs when you have extra liking or passion towards anything.
What is the Risk ? ● It can affect the day-to-day life and thought process of the person. ● It can lead to mood swings and mood instabilities. ● It hampers creativity and imagination. ● It can lead to social isolation and withdrawal. ● Put the person's relationship with partner, family, and friends at risk. ● The person can start living a fake life. ● It can lead to reckless behavior and spending a lot more money than you rightfully should be.
The criteria to be met for one to receive this diagnosis are ● Excessive usage. ● Experiencing withdrawal symptoms upon being disconnected from the internet. ● Development of tolerance. ● Using the internet despite harmful consequences i.e, difficulty in maintaining interpersonal relationships with family and friends, social isolation, fatigue etc.
Three subtypes of this disorder exist ● Excessive gaming. ● Sexting. ● Preoccupations with e-mail usage.
How to overcome Internet Addiction Disorder ? ● Try to come out of it and for that you need will power. Deviate your mind towards a more useful thing that makes you happy and accomplished. ● Make internet access very difficult like changing passwords by your siblings or friend. ● Share your problem with your close friends. ● Keep yourself busy in activities like painting, reading novels and improving your knowledge. ● Take care and try to get out soon.
