  1. Yellow House Meet and Greet WELCOME! Thank you for joining us!

  2. Welcome • Welcome to our Yellow House “Meet and Greet.” • This is an opportunity for us to let you know that we are off to a terrific start! • We are glad you are here!

  3. Website • Our website is your opportunity to be in the know! Please bookmark the website on your computers at home and visit often! • http://www.greenfield.k12.wi.us/middle/ms_yellowHouse.cfm

  4. PBIS • PBIS puts emphasis on school-wide proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school and classroom environments. • Introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important step of a student's educational experience. • Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehavior to occur before responding. • The purpose of school-wide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.

  5. Be respectful. • Be ready. • Be responsible.

  6. Grading Policy • Yellow House will continue to pursue the district’s goal of helping all students achieve their target learning goals. • Throughout each unit of study, learning targets will be emphasized.

  7. Grading Policy • At the end of each unit, students will complete summative assessments that evaluate the knowledge and skills they gained from the unit.

  8. Grading Policy • While traditional homework and quizzes may not be graded, they will be recorded and monitored in Infinite Campus (with a weight of 0%) so that students and parents can track learning.

  9. Grading Policy • It is imperative to recognize that, while the majority of work completed in and for class is not graded, un-graded work does not signify unimportance.

  10. Grading Policy • Every assignment and assessment relates directly to the learning targets students are expected to master.

  11. Grading Policy • Completing homework/classwork etc. enables the students to be better prepared for the final summative assessment. • A student who does not complete homework/classwork will find it difficult to master the required learning targets.

  12. Bi Weekly Reports • Grade reports will be sent home about every two weeks. • Grade sheets will be distributed to students on Mondays.

  13. Bi Weekly Reports • Students return the folder to their LA BLOCK teacher. • Parents keep the grade sheets to keep track of their son’s/daughter’s progress.

  14. Parents sign the form inside the folder. • Parents are encouraged to use the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus to access all current grades to monitor your son’s/daughter’s academic progress.

  15. Agenda • Assignments will be written on the board in each room. • Students should copy the assignment AS WRITTEN from the board.

  16. Agenda • •Parents will need to sign the agenda EVERY night. • • Agendas will be checked in study hall.

  17. Agenda • Students will carry their agendas in their homework binder. • This binder will go to every class.

  18. It will have tabs set up for each class. • Student should use the binder for homework that needs to be done and for work that is completed.

  19. Assignments will be listed on the Yellow House Website • Check it everyday!

  22. In order to help improve our reading levels this year, we will be doing two types of independent reading: • D.E.A.R. and at-home reading logs

  23. D.E.A.R. is an acronym for “Drop Everything and Read.” • To help achieve this goal, we will read almost every day for about 10 minutes in our LA Block class. • You must bring a D.E.A.R. book (chapter book) with you to every class. • The book you choose is completely up to YOU!

  24. At-Home Reading Logs: • Each Friday, you will receive an at-home reading log. • Your job is to read for at least 20 minutes at least 4 times a week. • The more reading you do, the better! Any type of reading is encouraged. • You are required to have a parent or guardian sign your reading log each night. These logs are due every Friday.

  25. Reading At-Home Weekly Log • Students: Your job is to read for at least 20 minutes per night and respond to the prompts below. • Parents: Please verify that your son/daughter has read for at least 20 minutes by signing in the appropriate boxes below each day. • Copies Available: Website
