2012 Dept. Mol. Biol. Scientific Image Competition Announcement of Winners
Lucie Jonatova (Dolezal Lab) Brain, lymph gland lobe, ring gland and imaginal discs of Drosophila third instar larva are in figure 1. Blue colour presents DAPI (nuclei), green colour presents Dco protein and red colour present Discs large (stains cell membranes).
Aleksandar Mihajlovic (Bruce Lab) "The nameless mouse morula" Mouse morula stage embryo (16-cell stage) stained with rhodamine conjugated phalloidin (i.e. actin) and DAPI (i.e. DNA).
Nagagireesh Bojanala (Asahina Lab) “Embryonic and larval expression pattern of the nuclear hormone receptor gene nhr-25 in the transgenic C. elegans (nematode)” The transgenic nematode carries artificial copies of nhr-25 gene and its regulatory elements that were fused to coding sequences of GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein). These elements drive the expression of recombinant (artificial) green NHR-25 protein specifically in the nuclei of majority of the epidermal cells during embryonic and larval development. The intensity the green NHR-25 protein in these cells mimics the levels of native or endogenous NHR-25 within them. The merged nomarski and GFP images were obtained through Olympus Confocal Microscopy and later modified by Adobe Photoshop.
Raquel Perez-Gomez (Krejci Lab) “Towards the Brain” Drosophilamelanogaster third instar larva: Axons (in red, Fasciclin 2) grow from single cells in the eye disk future photoreceptors (blue, GFP) and insert in target lamina neurons (in green, Dachshund) of the brain optic lobe.
