With little training, teenage boys to elderly men fought together for their homeland. Soldiers learned military tactics by trial and error battles. Because the civil war involved civilians, the socio and ecological structures of the North and South were wounded. The tension of war created both heroes and crazed men- as seen in the famous film, Gone with the Wind
