Computational Thinking By: Kimberly Tran Fluency with Information Technology Adobe Photoshop Microsoft Powerpoint The class, CSE3, is a computer based class teaching the essentials mainly to incoming Freshman of UCSD’s Sixth College. We go through a series of Labs, which range from Visual Programming through Scratch, to practical uses of Photoshop. During class, we are exposed to the essentials of every computer, learning about the concepts and mainly, how computers work. One of the most interesting Labs of the course was using Photoshop, in order to edit a picture like a professional. Photoshop is a powerful program that, when used properly, can do wonders. Photoshop was taught in a way to maximize the practical uses and allowed us to edit small but present flaws in a picture. Relatively, some day we will all have to create presentations. A powerful, organized, and easy way to create a presentation is through Microsoft Powerpoint. In CSE3, we have been taught several tips, tools, and overall tactics to tackle feisty presentations, helping us for when we will need to use powerpoint again. Programming with Scratch Creating Personal Web Pages In this class, we are able to make our own personal WebPages exemplifying what we have learned in the class. Creating a web pages takes a knowledge of basic HTML and allows me to apply the concepts we learn in class. These web pages also allow us to show our work done in labs in an organized fashion. The visual program, Scratch, allows students to use programming in order to create games, such at Tic Tac Toe, Ping Pong, and Baby Catch. This program allows us to apply concepts learned in class in a different way, and also allows us to visualize the operations we are using. Each of the different Labs has taught us a different attribute of programming, and the possibilities of such a program.
