  1. Data Collection Equipment Setup TEMS Setup

  2. UE Setup • After Installing TEMS HSDPA 1.0.3/TEMS 7.x , the UEs should be connected one at a time. This will prompt the installation of the UE drivers and ports. • Installation of drivers starts automatically. If the laptop prompts for manual search, point it to C:\Program Files\TEMS Products\TEMS Investigation\Drivers (Location to be changed based on directory chosen for installation of TEMS) • Drivers for the Qualcomm UE is available in the folder mentioned above. Samsung UEs use the same driver. • The UE firmware will be updated frequently - Check the latest version. • Each UE will prompt the installation of several drivers for the USB port, phone and the modem. • Re-connecting a UE to a different USB port will trigger the install of the drivers again and COM ports will change.

  3. Installation of UE drivers • Connect 1 UE at a time to the USB hub and allow all the drivers to be installed. 1 3 2 4 • Multiple USB drivers (Modem, port etc) will be installed for each UE • Qualcomm / Samsung UEs will install 2 ports. • Motorola UEs will install 2 ports. • Nokia UEs will install 3 ports. 5

  4. UE Setup • Once the UE drivers are installed, confirm the port settings as shown. • Note the COM port settings for each UE Modem (DC) A Qualcomm UE connected.. Each UE has a standard COM port (MS) and a USB modem COM port (DC).

  5. UE Setup – Connecting in TEMS • Once the UEs are setup, it could be connected in TEMS as shown Add Scanner, MS and DC COM settings for the DC could be verified from Modem properties. UEs are always connected in order (e.g., COM20/COM22 for UE1, COM42/COM43 for UE2)

  6. Equipment Connection MS Port DC Port Scanner (with GPS) MS1 Dummy UE (usually long calls) MS2 DC2 UE (short or long calls) MS3 DC3 UE (usually short calls) MS4 DC4 Drive Test Setup – Connecting Equipment • Multiple UEs are required to run multiple test cases simultaneously. • Connect the scanner first and then the UEs. • Follow the order as specified below when connecting equipment in TEMS. • Connect MS and DC even for voice calls using TEMS command sequence.

  7. Packet Call Setup – Dialup setup • It is highly recommended to verify the COM settings and correlate the dialup configuration to the correct modem port. • Note the Modem/Dialup pair and the COM port settings for Command sequence setup, connection in TEMS 2 3 4 1 5 6 7

  8. Packet Call Setup • Max port speed in the modem properties should be manually set greater than or equal to 115200 if not set by default. • TCP Receive Window Size in PC > 64000 • The APN settings (isp.cingular) could be set on the phone or in the modem properties using the AT command – AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”isp.cingular” USER ID and Password for the corresponding APN

  9. TEMS Setup • Setup TEMS to show the following messages

  10. Command Sequence Setup • The test cases for loaded and unloaded drives are run using the TEMS command sequence. • DC1 performs a PDP activation once and then continuously downloads a 1MB file. • DC2 performs PDP activation and Deactivation continuously and downloads a 50Kbyte file. • DC3 performs a PDP activation once and then continuously uploads a 1MB file. FTP Download 1MB FTP Download 50 KByte FTP Upload 1MByte Verify if the correct Dialup setting is invoked for the corresponding DC (I.e., both DC COM port configuration in TEMS (DC1) and COM port for the modem used in dialup (Moto1) are the same)

  11. Command Sequence Setup – Do’s and Don’t’s • Command Sequence should be stopped before ending a logfile. Critical • Loops cannot be stopped individually - Even if one of the UEs does not operate properly, the whole sequence needs to be stopped. • Do not use the command sequence functions to trigger restart at certain events. This will trigger the restart of the whole command sequence. • Remember to Check “Allow Multiple sessions”, to perform multiple data sessions simultaneously. X 

  12. TEMS Cel File • TEMS Cel file needs to be updated (preferably on a daily basis) with the most accurate data (Primary SC, neighbors etc). • NOTE – TEMS Cel file is required along with the TEMS log file for post processing using Omega Tool. • Mandatory fields in the CEL file are required during the drive and for post processing.

  18. Venue Testing with Trial 0 • Venue testing require 1 tester with 2 PCs (1 running EDGE and 1 on HSDPA) • Both PC should be installed with Trial0 and Cingular Communication Manager, ver 5.1.9.0. If Sierra HSDPA data card were to be used, the Sierra Aircard watcher has to be installed • Steps: • Get a unique tester ID for every tester before moving out to the test venue. • Enter name and contact information for each test • Make sure log files are saved when using the Trial0 tool • Approach Cingular to agree on testing locations at the specified venue • At the venue, make the HSDPA and EDGE call using Cingular Communication Manager (or Sierra Aircard Watcher if Sierra HSDPA Aircard is used), on the 2 PCs • Identify location with best signal strength based on maps of RBS site location or perform a scan before starting • At place with best signal strength, make 10 iterations using trial0 and then 2 to 3 locations at every other locations. • Change a different logfile at every location Do budget at least 3 hours per venue. Depending on GSM quality, EDGE download could take a considerable amount of time

  19. Hints & Tips • Ensure that Samsung UE is in Qualcomm mode. If Samsung UE is in CDMA mode, then hyperterminal to modem and enter: “at$susbc=1” to convert to Qualcomm mode. • TCP Receive Window Size in PC = 65535 • If the Qualcomm is downloading very slow, hyperterminal to its modem port and type "at+cgeqmin=1" and at+cgeqreq=1” • Use Agilent Workspaces in network folder to save time setting up Agilent. • Follow the device naming convention as per the diagrams in Agilent System Setup and WAMS Sequencer
