God Expects Honesty • (Prov 11:1 NKJV) Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.
God elevates the humble. • (Prov 11:2 NKJV) When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
Integrity is a good guide • (Prov 11:3 NKJV) The integrity of the upright will guide them,But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
Riches do not provide for eternity • (Prov 11:4 NKJV) Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,But righteousness delivers from death.
Righteousness makes a straight path • (Prov 11:5 NASB) The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. • (Prov 11:5 NIV) The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
The unfaithful are trapped by evil • (Prov 11:6 NKJV) The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust. • (Prov 11:6 NIV) The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
The wicked loses all at death • (Prov 11:7 NKJV) When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of the unjust perishes.
The righteous is delivered from trouble • (Prov 11:8 NKJV) The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead. • (Prov 11:8 NASB) The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place.
Evil words destroy others. • (Prov 11:9 NKJV) The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. • (Prov 11:9 NIV) With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
We basically rejoice with the good • (Prov 11:10 NKJV) When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation. • (Prov 11:10 TLB) The whole city celebrates a good man's success--and also the godless man's death.
The Wicked are destructive • (Prov 11:11 NKJV) By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. • (Prov 11:11 NIV) Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
Deal with your neighbor kindly • (Prov 11:12 NKJV) He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace. • (Prov 11:12 TLB) To quarrel with a neighbor is foolish; a man with good sense holds his tongue.
Use Your Tongue with Discretion • (Prov 11:13 NKJV) A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter. • (Prov 11:13 NIV) A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
The Strength of much advice • (Prov 11:14 NKJV) Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. • (Prov 11:14 NCV) Without leadership a nation falls, but lots of good advice will save it.
Be careful who you back! • (Prov 11:15 NKJV) He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure. • (Prov 11:15 TLB) Be sure you know a person well before you vouch for his credit! Better refuse than suffer later.
More than just riches • (Prov 11:16 NKJV) A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches. • (Prov 11:16 NIV) A kindhearted woman gains respect,but ruthless men gain only wealth.
Goodness is good for himself • (Prov 11:17 NKJV) The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh. • (Prov 11:17 NIV) A kind man benefits himself,but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
Good is for Eternity • (Prov 11:18 NKJV) The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward. • (Prov 11:18 TLB) The evil man gets rich for the moment, but the good man's reward lasts forever.
Righteousness leads to life • (Prov 11:19 NKJV) As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. • (Prov 11:19 NASB) He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life,And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.
The perverted are an abomination • (Prov 11:20 NKJV) Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their ways are His delight. • (Prov 11:20 NCV) The LORD hates those with evil hearts but is pleased with those who are innocent.
The wicked will be punished • (Prov 11:21 NKJV) Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered. • (Prov 11:21 NASB) Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.
It takes more than outward beauty • (Prov 11:22 NKJV) As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion. • Without discretion - literally, “without taste,” void of the subtle tact and grace, without which mere outward beauty is as ill-bestowed as the nose-ring in the snout of the unclean beast. If we may assume that in ancient Syria, as in modern Europe, swine commonly wore such a ring to hinder them doing mischief, the similitude receives a fresh vividness. – Albert Barnes
In time, the wicked will pay dearly • (Prov 11:23 NKJV) The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath. • (Prov 11:23 NCV) Those who do right only wish for good, but the wicked can expect to be defeated by God's anger.
The Rewards of Generosity! • (Prov 11:24 NKJV) There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. • (Prov 11:24 TLB) It is possible to give away and become richer! It is also possible to hold on too tightly and lose everything.
The Rewards of Generosity! • (Prov 11:25 NKJV) The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. • (Prov 11:25 NIV) A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Market Manipulators! • (Prov 11:26 NKJV) The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. • (Prov 11:26 TLB) People curse the man who holds his grain for higher prices, but they bless the man who sells it to them in their time of need.
Your sins will find you out! • (Prov 11:27 NKJV) He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil. • (Prov 11:27 NCV) Whoever looks for good will find kindness, but whoever looks for evil will find trouble.
Do not trust riches • (Prov 11:28 NKJV) He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage. • But righteousness is not a way to assure ourselves physical wealth. • Abraham was rich. • Paul had little of this world’s goods.
Take care of your family • (Prov 11:29 NKJV) He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart. • (Prov 11:29 TLB) The fool who provokes his family to anger and resentment will finally have nothing worthwhile left. He shall be the servant of a wiser man.
Two big pluses • (Prov 11:30 NKJV) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise. • (Prov 11:30 TLB) Godly men are growing a tree that bears life-giving fruit, and all who win souls are wise.
Recompense for righteous & wicked • (Prov 11:31 NKJV) If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth,How much more the ungodly and the sinner. • (Prov 11:31 NCV) Good people will be rewarded on earth, and the wicked and the sinners will be punished.
Just remember: God doesn’t settle all of His accounts in September!
