  3. Why do we need LifeStraw®? • Today, more than one billion people of the world's population are without access to safe drinking water. • Half of the world's poor suffer from waterborne disease, and nearly 6,000 people - mainly children - die each day by consuming unsafe drinking water.

  4. Device • Water filtration tools that provides safe drinking water and have a positive health impact on the most vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women. • It is a 25 cm (9.85 inch) long, plastic pipe filter and costs 5 dollars.

  6. Half of the world's poor suffer from waterborne disease, and nearly 6,000 people - mainly children - die each day by consuming unsafe drinking water. LifeStraw® water purifiers have been developed as a practical way of preventing disease and saving lives, as well as achieving the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe water by the year 2015.

  7. LifeStraw® Personal is a portable water purifier for prevention of common diarrhoeal disease – can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean drinking water.

Second Polio+? • Easy access to safe drinking water away from home. • Kills and removes 99.999% of waterborne bacteria and 99% of waterborne viruses. • Requires no electrical power or spare parts for the life time of the straw. • It has proven to be effective against waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and diarrhea.

Where is it used? • It is already in use in Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda • There are two types of filters: Personal filters a minimum of 700 litres (185 gallons) of water, enough for one person and one year. • Family filters a minimum of 18,000 litres (4757.14 gallons) of water, providing safe drin-king water for a family for more than two years.
