Awareness • Be alert to unsafe conditions and actions. • Call attention to them so corrections can be made.
Don’t eat, drink, or chew gum in the lab or science classroom (do you REALLY want those chemicals in your mouth?). • Never use your mouth to pipette anything. • Never taste or sniff anything unless instructed to do so by your teacher.
Know where emergency exits, eye wash station, and emergency buttons are.
Don’t wait for me if chemicals splash into someone’s eyes…. Get them to the eye wash station NOW!!!!
Body bump • Be mindful of your body movements. • Watch those around you. • You don’t want to bump into somebody or have them bump into you.
Horseplay, pushing and shoving are not appropriate ANYWHERE!!!
Only handle chemicals, tools, glassware, and other lab equipment when told to do so, and with proper instruction.
Clean up • Keep your work area clean. • Clean up all spills immediately. • Keep the lab floor dry at all times.
Everyday “Good” Procedures • Wash your hands before leaving the lab • Tie back long hair • Remove all jewelry • Secure loose clothing
