  5. Expectations and Procedures: Expectations & Procedures Lead the Way. Manage Yourself. Show Respect. I expect to give a lot of positive reinforcementfor jobs well done. I do notexpect to have to respond often to recurring negative behaviors. There are specific expectations of students entering my room. • Follow directions to the first time they are given. • Respect the rights and properties of others. • Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. • Raise your hand to be acknowledged. • Be prepared for teaching and learning.

  6. Procedures: • Entering the classroom: As soon as you enter the classroom, you must find your seat and begin your warm up activity. This may include copying down your homework, getting out needed materials or completing an assigned task. You may not be out of your seat or be talking loudly with your classmates. If you have completed your warm up activity, you may read silently.

  7. Procedures • Walking in the hallways or switching classes: Whenever you are in the hallways, you must be quiet. Remember that other classes may be working.

  8. Procedures… • Getting the teacher’s attention in class: If you need your teacher’s help during independent work time in class, RAISE YOUR HAND!

  9. Procedures • Sharpening pencils in class: Hence, all pencils must be sharpened before class starts. Also consider purchasing a personal pencil sharpener that you can store in your pencil pouch to use in case your pencil tip breaks.

  11. Class Website: • Our class’ website is http://giraffebytes.pbworks.com. It is imperative that you check our website on a WEEKLY basis.

Homework Expectations • Assignments will be given on almost a daily basis. • Complete EVERY assignment that is given, and have it ready to be evaluated at the beginning of the class period that is due. • Deductions will be made from assignments that are turned in late (10 points per day).

Late Work Policies and Procedures • 1 Day Late= -20 points, 2 Days Late=-30 points, 3 Days Late= -40 points, 4 Days late=50 (NHI) • While You Were Out Notebook • If you have to turn in late work, the student must fill out a “Late Work Explanation Form.” These forms are located next to the late work bin. Students must explain why the work was late and how many days late the assignment. If the “Number of days late” is not filled out on the sheet, there will be an automatic deduction of 20 points.

  14. Heading Your Paper • In order for an assignment to receive full credit the following heading must be placed in the top right or left hand corner margin of the paper above the lines: • First name, Last Name • Language Arts, ______ period • Date

  15. Grading Policy • Grading Policy • The grading scale for this class is as follows: A=100-93 B= 92-85 C= 84-77 D= 76-70 F= Below 70 • You grade will be divided as follows: • 10%- Homework • 90%- Classwork, Quizzes, Tests, Presentations, Book Challenges, etc.

  16. Organization • You will need the following supplies: • LA- Binder (for some loose leaf papers) • 5 Subject notebook • Sticky notes (optional) • Pencil/Pen (no red pens) • Highlighter • Loose leaf pinder
