  1. Gray is good. Make it gorgeous. It’s a growing trend. Gray is cooler than ever. So many women today are opting to age gracefully, accepting and embracing life as it flows – grey hair, wrinkles, sags, bags and all. However, gray hair can appear dull, brittle and wiry, sticking up stubbornly and ruining your style. That’s because gray hair lacks melanin (the pigment that gives hair its color), and the cuticles of gray hair are rougher than hair that has melanin. So gray hair needs regular treatment and care to stay soft, smooth and manageable. To carry off gray hair without looking old and frumpy, it must be cut and styled to perfection. As gray hair reflects light, it will grab eyeballs first and become a focal point in your overall appearance. Gray hair can turn yellow if exposed to too much sun or chlorine in the water. To keep this from happening, protect your hair with a hat or scarf when out in the sun, and if you swim, be sure to thoroughly rinse the chlorinated water out of your hair. Even if you wear a swim cap. As you get grayer, you’ll find the texture of your hair is also getting coarser and each strand is getting thinner. It becomes harder to grow your hair long. For some, hair just won’t grow anymore! For others, it may grow, but longer styles can appear less healthy, with thinner ends. A shorter hairstyle may be the need of the hour, as it helps to give the illusion of thicker hair. It’s also important to get frequent trims to keep split ends and thinning at bay. A trim once every two months—even if it’s just a half inch—is recommended to keep hair looking healthy and well-maintained. To keep gray hair glossy and avoid the yellowing effect, there are a huge number of moisturizing shampoos, conditioners and serums made especially for gray hair, available in the market. Products with ‘silicone’ can be great for controlling those rebellious wiry hairs, and brightening or color shampoos help achieve the brightness and tint you like. To avoid being labeled a ‘granny’ with unruly, frizzy gray hair, deep conditioning should be a regular ritual. A weekly conditioning treatment at home will hydrate your hair and lock in moisture, but you need to make appointments for deep conditioning treatments at your salon regularly too. Avoid over heat styling, perming, hair accessories, or any other rough treatment on gray hair, as it is drier than most hair. Scalp massage can also help stimulate hair follicles and increase blood flow and circulation to the scalp -- recommended for healthier-looking hair in any color.
