  1. Salt Creek Beach, Dana Point, California, USA Salt Creek Beach, located near the town of Bombay Beach, stretches along the shores of the highly saline Salton Sea. This wide beach, part of the Salton Sea State Recreation Area, features coarse light brown sand and a nearby railroad. Visitors may occasionally encounter fish carcasses washed ashore due to the sea's high salinity. North of the beach flows Salt Creek, which empties into the Salton Sea. For photography enthusiasts, Salt Creek Beach offers stunning views of the Salton Sea, especially at sunset, making it a perfect spot for Instagram-worthy shots. Amenities at Salt Creek Beach are limited to restrooms and picnic areas. There are no lifeguards, and the restrooms can sometimes be dirty. Pets are not allowed on the beach. Despite the high salinity making the water unsafe for swimming, the beach offers a variety of activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, wildlife watching, fishing, picnicking, camping, boating, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, jet-skiing, and paddleboarding. The buoyant water attracts some boaters, kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders. Fishing at Salt Creek Beach can be challenging due to the high salinity killing most fish species. However, tilapia can still be caught and there is no limit on the catch. The Salton Sea State Recreation Area provides additional activities including designated swimming areas, hiking, and educational programs on local biodiversity and ecology. The best time to visit is from October to June when temperatures are more bearable. Access to Salt Creek Beach is straightforward via a dirt road off Grapefruit Boulevard. An entrance fee may be required. Visitors should be prepared for the summer stench from the sea and decaying fish, and carry extra water due to the arid climate.
