  1. Ross Cove Beach (Pillar Point Bluff), El Granada, California, United States  Ross Cove Beach, located in the town of El Granada within the James V. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, stretches for a mile along the coastline of Half Moon Bay. Situated on the northern side of the popular fishing and boating destination, Pillar Point, this beach lies beneath the Pillar Point Bluff Park, which offers various trails for exploration. Also known as Ross Cove, the beach provides amenities such as restrooms and offers activities like surfing, hiking, whale watching, and beachcombing. Accessing Ross Cove Beach requires a bit of effort. After exiting Highway 1, you can drive down to the paid parking lot at 300 West Point Avenue, located near the Pillar Point Marsh. From the parking area, you’ll need to descend a bluff using one of two available trails—one located near the gate of the Air Force Military Facility and the other on the west side of a gated radio tower. For nearby attractions, a 40-minute drive takes you to the Floating Taj Mahal, also known as The Taj Mahal Houseboat. This unique structure, built by Bill Harlan, features marble floors, a wine cellar, a meditation solarium, and a sauna. The Marin Headlands Art Institute, another nearby attraction, hosts a prestigious artist-in-residence program. Additionally, Muir Woods National Monument offers a serene experience with its 240 acres of redwood forests, while Mooncow Bay provides a picturesque setting for photography, picnicking, and camping. If you get hungry, nearby restaurants such as Barbara’s Fishtrap, Seville Tapas, and Mezza Luna Restaurant offer a variety of cuisines. For accommodation, the Oceano Hotel & Spa, Oceanfront Hotel, and the more budget-friendly Miramar Inn & Suites are within a short drive from the beach, offering a range of amenities to enhance your stay.
