When and How Much? • Most tweets have a lifetime of about one hour. • You can easily post 10 times a day without completely flooding your followers. • Spread out your tweets to have 30 – 40 minutes in between each one. • EXCEPTION: live-tweeting specific events, emergency situations, news events. • Use your analytics to judge best times for your audience!
#hashtags • Create hashtags for programs, initiatives and events and advertise them in your other media. • Don’t spam a post with #nothing #but #hashtags. That’s pretty #annoying. • #LongHashtagsDontDoAnyoneAnyFavors • #No,YouCan’t use punctuation in a hashtag.
@mentions • Mentions are a great way to get someone’s attention. • If you are @mentioning someone as the first part of your tweet, add a period (.) or other symbol to the beginning. Otherwise only that person and their followers will see the tweet. • Don’t tag a TON of people in a tweet – make multiple tweets or take a different approach.
Periscope • Twitter’s owned live-stream video tool is free to use. • But we really haven’t seen as much response with it as we have with Facebook Live. • Works best for items with a LOT of talk – news, politics, etc.

The Future of Twitter • Twitter requires some active attention right now, as after 10 years and declining usage numbers, they are looking to make many changes. • More video? We’re hoping to see more Periscope integration, and more from Vine. Video is king right now. • Longer tweets? Entirely possible that Twitter will have longer-form tweets in its future, which will change the game.
