What is the SEC? • Informing, affecting attitude and behaviour of investor publics. Distribution of materials: Shareholder Meetings, Annual Reports, analyst briefings. • Enhance credibility of corporations in financial community. Audience participation-invite to functions, get to purchase shares in company. • How to set-up a successful Annual Meeting: (P292)
Financial PR (continued) • Audiences: Individual Investors, Program and Corps, Analysts,Financial Press • Role of Analysts – predictions vs actuals, forecasts, guidance, ‘street talk, etc. • Contents of Annual Report: Cover letter, Financial highlights, non-financial highlights, bal Sheet, Income Statement, Products and Services, customers, Corp Officers, locations, stock exchange, history (P294) • Summary: Research for investor relations understands company status in financial and investment communities, need communicate with community and know your audience.; share owners, or potential ones, security analysts and investment counsellors, financial press and SEC. • Takeovers (Tenders and Proxy fights) and mergers/acquisitions • For Next Tuesday: Turn in Assignment #3.
