What Are Our Goals? To develop a Community Action Plan for our community to help us become “aging-friendly”
The World is Rapidly Aging! In 2006, the number of persons aged 60 and older was 650 million.
In 2025, the number willalmost double: 1.2 billion people will be 60 and overBy 2050, there will be 2 billion people aged 60 and over in the world
Today there are more than 35 million Americans age 65 and aboveOver the next 30 years, that number will dramaticallyincrease as the first wave of baby boomers turns65 between 2011 and 2030
Estimates are that there are nearly 13,000 residents aged 55 and better in Waukegan. If projections are correct, and our population doubles, we can expect nearly 30,000senior citizens by 2025
Another trend is in 2007, over half our global population lives in cities. By 2030, about three out of five people will live in cities.
The number of older persons is projected to more than triple worldwide over the next half century!
To help Waukegan Township provide adequate services to an ever-increasing population, we must all become active participants in helping to make our community age-friendly.
