Intensive Watershed Monitoring Roseau River - 2015 • Framework for monitoring and assessing water quality • Encompasses each of the state’s 81 major watersheds (HUC8s) within a 10-year timeframe • Monitoring parameters • Biology • Fish • Macroinvertebrates • Aquatic macophytes? • Water chemistry • Hydrology / geomorphology
Monitoring Regimes and Parameters: Streams • Stream sampling for chemistry and bacteriological data. • QA/QC samples include one set of chemistry and E. coli duplicates collected in July of year one. Also, one sampler blank is required. • Multiple sampling regimes with various sample collection times from May – September of each monitoring year.
Monitoring Regimes and Parameters: Streams Cont. Monitoring Regimes and Parameters: River Nutrients.
A “10x” water chemistry monitoring site will be established near the pour point of each subwatershed Try to utilize existing sites to build upon past and ongoing monitoring efforts There are 10 of these subwatersheds within the Roseau River HUC8, but one (“Unnamed”) will not be targeted for 10x work
0902031406-02 State Ditch No. 69
0902031405-01 Upper Roseau River
0902031404-01 Sprague Creek
0902031403-01 Hay Creek
0902031402-02 Mickinock Creek Ideally, we’d place a 10x site somewhere near the pour point No road crossings. Appears to be private land. Could try to work with landowners to gain access to stream. A couple possible locations? Huge beaver dam?
0902031402-01 South Fork Roseau River Pour point Is the Highway 2 crossing a good location for 10x monitoring, or is the existing station at County Road 126 preferred? Existing EQUIS station S003-093
0902031401-01 Headwaters Roseau River Existing EQUIS station near Hayes Lake State Park. (upstream of Severson Creek). Drains >100 sq mi, could be a good 10x opportunity. Is one of these sites preferred for 10x monitoring?
