Introduction • ifpIMAGE used to generate PNG imagery of grids from the GFESuite • Anything displayable on GFE spatial editor can become a PNG image • ifpIMAGE is actually the GFE running a special background with a special configuration file ifpIMAGE
IfpIMAGE Configuration File • ifpIMAGE configuration files should be SITE-based • Creation is done through the GFE main menu. ifpIMAGE
Running ifpIMAGE • Product->Generate Products...->Png Images • Remember to publish your grids before using this method to start the ifpIMAGE • It is suggested that you customize this menu for convenience and efficiency • Command line (including scripts) ifpIMAGE
Mandatory Switches Limits range of creation Command Line Options • Command line running options: • -c configName • -o outputDirName • -b baseTime (yyyymmdd_hhmm format) • -s startTime (yyyymmdd_hhmm format) • -e endTime (yyyymmdd_hhmm format) • -t userDefinedNamedTimeRange • -u username (overrides SITE default) ifpIMAGE
Gotchas • "SITE" vs. User Configuration File Creation • Png Image Size • 'lx1' to 'lx2' Creation Issues ifpIMAGE
Png Image Generation • Png_width = 400, Png_height = 400 • The image pane is square. Width is the reference dimension; height includes additional 'real estate' for the color bar and logo bar. Thus, if both width and height are set, width is used to calculate the height. If only height is supplied, expect the width to be smaller than your height input. ifpIMAGE
'lx1', 'lx2' Creation Issues • 'lx1', 'lx2' directory structures are independent • All ifpIMAGE configuration files are created via the GFE on that machine. • Output products go to data/products/IMAGE on the machine it ran on. • To see your output on either machine, redirect your output to a common directory (e.g., a mounted NFS ds directory with the -o option) ifpIMAGE
lx1 lx2 ifpIMAGE ifpIMAGE /awips/GFESuite/data/products/IMAGE /awips/GFESuite/data/products/IMAGE ds1 /data/adapt/GFESuite/products ? 'lx1', 'lx2' Creation Issues ifpIMAGE
BASE gfeConfig (BASE) SITE T_Image (SITE) awipsusr MaxT_Image (awipsusr) Gotchas – “SITE” • ifpIMAGE uses, by default, the “SITE” configuration files.. If you log into the GFE as a user and create a config file, then run ifpIMAGE, no images will be generated. • -u option overrides this default ? ifpIMAGE Can’t see MaxT_Image ifpIMAGE
gfeConfig Tip… siteImage • For ease of modification and efficiency we recommend that you create a hierarchical configuration scheme for ifpIMAGE weather element configuration files. T_image Wind_Image ifpIMAGE
Tip... • To test your new ifpIMAGE configuration file, run it from the GFE StartUp Menu. • If it has been hidden, just type in the name. This will help avoid unproductive ifpIMAGE script runs due to syntax errors in your configuration files. • If a syntax error is in your config file, a dialog will popup indicating the location of the problem. • Not everything can be tested from GFE, e.g., Png_parms. ifpIMAGE
