How L-L became part of MANA 5250 • Dr Quick : 4/2009 introduction • My Impressions of the first meeting • Common interest in Leadership development and healthcare • Shared Goolsby model : Integrity/Courage/Impact; strength based leadership • Passion for leadership development • My partner and I had developed platform and contents for on line leadership development and on line coaching • Novel approach : using the L-L platform for the course.
My Background and Experience • Engineering degree from India, came to UC for Masters and subsequently did MBA in Finance and marketing from Xavier University • Odd jobs/Door to door selling training ( unique experience) • Joined Siemens training program. • Started in automation and control group and worked in several functional areas • Early successes with customers in Texas in tough economy • Moved ten times ( Nine moves w/in USA and now to India for 3 + years) • Product, services , Project businesses • Four different domains Manufacturing/Automation, Healthcare, Technical/Professional services and Project businesses/Technology Businesses • Opportunities: When/how?
My Leadership Journey • First promotion to leadership role based on specific skill. • Focus is on coordination , direct contact and hands on involvement • Next comes larger group and understanding of leading by magnetic force( can’t touch all) • Different functions and geographies to larger size • Learning from others, courses, following others, • Unless you go through tough times, you don’t get better • Global teams, learning • Energy and enthusiasm • Rediscovery phase: Career, entrepreneurship, directorship, philanthropy , Career • CEO again, full circle ?( CEO and President of Syntel INC( NASDAQ: SYNT) , over three years, Mkt Cap approx $2.5B and over 21,000 emply.)
Basic Principles/Thoughts: My view • Know yourself. • Commit to learn, self help and personal improvement • Leadership=Influence • Position/Permission/production/people development based leadership. • Setting priorities and making choices. Vision • Integrity/Trust/values/Transparency: Like people • Energy/Enthusiasm/attitude • Change=Fear, courage and compassion. Innovation. • Duality: situational leadership • Why leaders fail? • Lucky/fortunate, keys to success
