College Years • Studied medicine at the University of Bonn • Attended lectures and courses on biology • Also attended University of Hamburg for one year and Medical Academy in Dusseldorf • Graduated in medicine and finished MD thesis from the Medical Academy at the end of 1960
Life • Got married in 1964 • Had first son, Jan Dirk, in 1965 • Moved to Philadelphia, US, in the end of 1965 on a job offer from Werner and Gertrude Henle at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia • Started working in 1966
Retirement In 2003, after 20 years, Harald zur Hausen retired from the scientific directorship of the German Cancer Research Centre
