EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING DIVISION WESTERN REGION – Year over Year Statistics • Between the first quarter of 2006 and the first quarter of 2007: • Unemployment rate rose to 6.9% from 6.7% (provincially 6.7%) • Unemployment rate for youth (15-24%) remained constant at 12.9% (provincially 12.8%) • Labour force increased by 1% (19,700 people) • Part-time job growth, from 20% of total employment to 22% • Labour force participation rate was virtually unchanged at 66.3% • Labour force participation rate for older adults, aged 55 and over, increased slightly to 31.7% from 31.3% in 2006 The first quarter of 2007 saw the highest levels of employment of any first quarter in 10 years.
