Film Series: Untold Stories When: Tuesday, January 27th @ 6pm Where: Munroe 114-5 When: Wednesday, February 25th @ 6pm Where: O'Connell 250 OUR BRAND IS CRISIS This is the story of the rise and fall of the last President of Bolivia, Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada. It focuses on his American political spin doctors as they get him elected after a hotly contested campaign. A politically current and topical story at a time when democracy and American influence are facing critical challenges worldwide. UNDER THE SAME MOON Tells the parallel stories of nine-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In the hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico. Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. Along the way, mother and son face challenges and obstacles but never lose hope that they will one day be together again. When: Tuesday, March 3rd @ 6pm Where: O'Connell 250 When: Monday, February 9th @ 6pm Where: O'Connell 250 EL SEXTO SOL Just before dawn on New Year's Day 1994, armed Mayan Indians declared war on the government. This documentary features in-depth interviews with people from the EZLN, among them Subcommandante Marcos and Bishop Samuel Ruiz from San Cristobal de las Casas, an outspoken practitioner of liberation theology and human rights activist. The Lost Steps The film tells the story of Mónica Erigaray, a twenty year old living with her parents, Ernesto Erigaray and Inés. Seventeen years ago,the Erigarays left Argentina and moved to Spain to live a peaceful and quiet life but their lives do not turn out they way the expect. The film ends with the dedication: To the mothers and grandmothers of Plaza del Mayo, and to those who resist the abduction of our memories. When: Tuesday, February 17th @ 6pm Where: O'Connell 250 Sponsored by Sigma Delta Pi, National Collegiate Hispanic Society, DePaul University, Epsilon Chapter AMIGOS Amigos is a low budget film that makes justice to Cuban refugees arriving to USA in the 1980 boatlift. Amigos shows the anguish and suffering of human beings escaping from a dictatorship and arriving to a new country where they must struggle for survival. Amigos takes the stain that a few gave to the majority of those refugees and presents them like they really were: human beings in search of peace, work and freedom. Questions?
