  1. JVT-L011r1 (m10867) Overview Level Issues; Level Proposals (FRExt-context-only)

  2. Level 4.2 – Max Frame Size • Designed to support 1920 by 1080 @ 60P • Max Frame Size (“MaxFS”) set accordingly • However: New displays and new content are full 2048 by 1080 (TI DLP, DCI, SMPTE DCDM) • Slight increase in Level 4.2 Max Frame Size (“MaxFS”) would accommodate these recent developments • Propose increase MaxFS to 8704 (from 8192) • Bump up to next major power of 2 multiple?

  3. Note • The following proposed changes based on experimental evidence not reproducible here at MPEG due to the type of equipment required to demonstrate the results.

  4. Level 4.2 – Max Bitrate • Designed to support 1920 by 1080 @ 60P for professional applications and distribution. • Max Video bit rate (“MaxBR”) currently set to 50 Mbps – fine for Main Profile as intended. • 50 Mbps demonstrably inadequate for 2K film distribution in 4:2:0 10 bits or 4:4:4 12 bits. • Propose increasing Level 4.2 MaxBR to 150 Mbps for FRExt-only. • **OR** add Level 4.3 to accommodate change to Max FS and MaxBR for FRExt.

  5. Network/Cable Primary Distribution

  6. Professional Terrestrial (Fibre) and future VTRs/Servers

  7. Level 5.1 – Max Bitrate • Designed to support 4K by 2K geospatial, LSDI and cinema storage & distribution. • Max Video bit rate (“MaxBR”) currently set to 240 Mbps. • 240 Mbps marginally adequate for 4K film distribution in 4:2:0 10 bits or 4:4:4 12 bits. • Propose increasing Level 5.1 MaxBR to 300 Mbps for FRExt-only. • **OR** add Level 5.2 to accommodate change to MaxBR for FRExt.
