  3. Paper 2 / Section A Write complete sentences based on what you see in the picture given. Write exactly 5 sentences, NOT more, NOT less. 10 words are given but you MAY use it if you want to.

  4. Question 1 : Descriptive Writing Study the picture carefully and note as many information as you can. Study the words given, cross out the words that you do not know the meaning. Identify the action verbs in the picture. Action verbs will help you to write good descriptive sentences. Some given words might give you an idea on how to write about an event, activity or incidents.

  5. Question 1 : Constructing Sentences You can write in the simple present tense or in the present continuous tense. Avoid repeating the same sentence pattern - use a variety of sentence pattern that you have learnt. Emphasis on marking is on the grammar aspect.

  6. Question 1: Writing Tips • Describe; do not narrate (Tell a story) • Avoid linking or sequencing between sentences. • Avoid using proper nouns and pronouns. • May or may not use the words given. • May use present, past, or present continuous tense, or combination of tenses. • May write simple, compound, or complex sentences. • Do not exceed five sentences.

Question 1: Writing Tips • No stereotype: vary the sentence patterns, • Describe the actions shown in relation to :a person to another or to objects, • Use verbs and appropriate vocabulary, • DO NOT : • Use time phrase (Last month, Yesterday, • Last week), • Name of places or person not shown in the picture, • Write assumption or predict the outcomes.

  8. Question 1: Writing Strategy • Look at the picture. • Identify the place in the picture. • Identify the people in the picture. • Identify the actions in the picture. • Identify the objects in the picture. • Read the words given in the box. • Identify the form of verbs

  9. Question 1 : Techniques on how to write long sentences There are two common techniques. Technique 1 : Listing In this technique, you write as many simple sentences and then combine two or three sentences to form compound or complex sentences.

  10. Example 1. Ali studies at SK Rahmat. 2. Everyday he cycles to school. 3. He cycles to school with his friends. Ali studies at SK Rahmat and everyday he cycles to school with his friends.

  11. Technique 2 : Expansion. In this technique, you expand the original stem to form longer / more interesting sentence. 1. The boy is reading a book. 2. The boy is reading a book at the table. 3. The boy is reading a book and he is sitting comfortably at the table. 4. The boy, who is reading a book, sits comfortably at the table.

  12. Sample Answer (Question 1) 1. The Malay girl with a ponytail is Siti and she is closing the lid of the polka-dot box while smiling. 2. There is a present which is wrapped nicely using a flowery wrapper and tied neatly with a roll of ribbon on the table. 3. The boy who is sitting on the floor is Muthu and he is helping his friend to arrange the balls. 4. The girl who is wearing a pinafore is polishing a tall trophy using a small cloth. 5. The hardworking boy is Ah Chong and he is handling the congkak board carefully.

  13. Section B Information Transfer Question 2(a) Transferring linear / non-linear information to a given table, Question 2(b) Write a short paragraph(s) of one’s decisions or choice.

Question 2(a) Information Transfer • Read and understand the instruction carefully. • You are required to identify the information details from the text. • Extract relevant information and then, transfer them into the blanks provided. • Read the text or passage again and underline all the details mentioned. • Make sure that the required information has been transferred correctly. • Check your spelling and use correct punctuation; spelling, upper and lower cases, symbols.

Question 2(b) Giving Reason • Read and understand the instruction carefully. • Make sure you know exactly the requirements of the question. • You are required to make a choice and give reasons for your choice. • Marks will be awarded according to your ability to give appropriate and accurate reasons. • The emphasis is on how good your reason is.

  17. Sample Answer (Question 2b) I would go to my uncle’s house because I am very eager to meet my beloved uncle as I had not met him for a long time. My uncle’s house is located in Terengganu. I only need to spend two hours travelling as I am taking a bus there. I can enjoy the beautiful scenery as his house is located by the sea. I can play with my cousins on the beach. It would be a wonderful experience for me. I can also collect seashells when I am strolling along the beach. I can add the seashells to my collection. I am sure I would have an enjoyfull time there.

  18. Section C Note Expansion Write sentences in paragraphs based on a series of visual stimuli.

  20. Question 3 Narration Scheming and Drafting 1st Step Study the notes, Identify the tense used, Make a simple story line to guide you. 2nd Step 1. Write a draft: free writing, brainstorm, making a list or mapping, 2. Join them by using conjunction to form compound sentences, 3. If possible, use relative pronouns and insert adjectives or adverbs, 4. Edit your language and content.
