CHILDREN AND GURBANI BASICS REVISITED By Dr. Charandeep Kaur
Can you see God? You can feel Him as you feel love of your parents but cannot see it
Why do Paath ? • Shabad Guru– invisible form of GOD! • Sabaḏ gur pīrā gahir gambẖīrā bin sabḏai jag ba▫urānaʼn. • The Word of the Shabad is his Guru and spiritual teacher, profound and unfathomable; without the Shabad, the world is insane. (SGGS 635)
Why in Book / Granth form as Guru? Shabad Guru v/s human guru -rishi: gyaan—proud—started insulting others - shabad: immortal, pure form Gyaan hi Bhagwaan -be one with God
Role as Sant-Sipahi Why taking arms became necessary? Guru Hargobind Singh- Miri/Piri = Temporal/Spiritual Gobind Singh completed the swaroop as Singh Positioning of Akal Takht and Harmander Sahib Role as Sant–Sipahi in today’s world: fight bad thoughts
Can child be spiritually elevated? Some examples Prahlad 5 years Baba Buddha ji 7 years Sri Guru Harkrishan ji got Gurgaddi at age of 5 years Guru Gobind Rai (Singh) 9 years Ajit Singh/Jujhar Singh/ Jorawar Singh(9yrs) / Fateh Singh(7yrs)
Baba Budhaji with Guru Nanak Dev Ji Bhai Budha applied tilak of guruship to five Gurus, saw seven Gurus and remained in close association with first six Sikh Gurus from 1521 to 1628 for over one hundred years. He was the first priest of Han Mandar, and laid the foundations of Dera Baba Nanak and most of the holy buildings at Amritsar. His original name was Bura.
Prahlad- 5yrs.
Equality • Preached by Guru Nanak Devji 500 years back when both Hindu and Muslim treated women in low esteem • So ki▫o manḏā ākẖī▫ai jiṯ jamėh rājān. So why call her bad? From her, kings are born. (SGGS 473) ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾਨ ॥ • But if women equal to men than responsibility towards Sikhism is also same
