10. 10 Tissue Glass Fiber Tissue used wherever supporting layers of material are needed
Used in building materials, laminar surface decorative materials or reinforced thermoplastics
Ahlstrom can offer the optimum combination of dimensional stability, flexural strength, porosity and thickness, using combinations of E-glass and blends of other fibers and E-glass

11. 11 Chopped Strand Mat High performance chopped glassfiber strands made from silane sized E-glass fibers.
Formed from 50mm long strands bonded together with a (styrene soluble) binder.
Good surface bonding, high strand integrity, easy handling, excellent drapeability, easy air removal, and extremely fast wet-through and wet-out and low resin consumption
High glass content and excellent surface finish to the laminate.
Ahlstrom emulsion mat is a special reinforcement for hand lay-up and low-pressure processes. Suitable for both single and multi-ply techniques.
Ahlstrom powder bonded mats are special reinforcements for hand lay-up and continuous lamination processes.
12. 12 Combination products Ahlstrom Combination products comprise two or more layers.
Most common form is a woven roving stitched to a layer of chopped fibers.
The woven layer provides strength and rigidity, while the layer of chopped fibers acts as a binderless chopped strand mat giving a smooth surface to the laminate.
Ahlstrom Combiflow range of products consisting of three layers
a layer of binderless chopped strand mat on each side of a porous elastic layer in the middle giving excellent drapeability and resin flow
The easy lay-up in the mold and very high wetting capacity increases productivity and makes production more economical.
Ahlstrom stitched mat
is a binderless chopped strand mat where the strands are mechanically bonded together with a stitching yarn to form a web.
13. 13 Infusion and RTM products Ahlstrom Infusion and RTM (Resin Transfer Method) products are special reinforcements for infusion and closed mold processes.
High wetting capacity makes productivity and production more economical
Unique channel structure remains permeable for resin flow under high vacuum compression.
Infusion products give a high glass content and excellent surface finish to the laminate
14. 14 Multiaxial reinforcement products Specifically designed for the production of high quality laminates.
Offer optimized fiber architecture to provide strength in specific directions.
Suited for a wide range of production processes: hand lay-up, filament winding, pultrusion and closed molds
High wetting capacity increases productivity and makes production more economical.
Fibers are laid down flat (not woven) and stitched together. By not crimping the fibers, as happens in weaving, much better physical properties can be achieved
The multiaxial method provides unidirectional, biaxial, triaxial and quadraxial fabrics tailored to have the reinforcement in a specific orientation
A chopped strand mat layer or different types of surface mats can be added. Multiaxials are also available as narrow tapes.
15. 15 Chopping roving Assembled roving with high strand integrity and a silane-coupling agent
Good unwinding
Good chopping
High strand integrity
Excellent fiber distribution
Low static
Fast wet-out and wet-through
KR302 is compatible with unsaturated polyester resins.
16. 16 Direct roving
Specially designed for continuous processes
unique performance makes them suitable for laminates and profiles as well as for weaving and knitting.
R338 Direct roving
R321 Low friction direct roving
17. 17 Spray-up roving Ahlstrom Spray up rovings R363 and R364 are chrome free, made from silane sized E-glass. T
Specially suited for both manual and automated spray-up process.
Excellent mechanical properties, good choppability and good consistency, excellent air removal, rapid wet-out and low static.
Compatible with unsaturated polyester resins.
Ahlstrom spray-up rovings are versatile, allowing efficient production of laminates in a wide range of shapes, thicknesses and sizes.
The product gives a high glass content and excellent surface finish to the laminate.
18. 18 Volumized roving Designed for pultrusion where its open structure provides mechanical strength also orthogonal to the strand direction.
R338 RWSP is a process roving made from epoxy-silane sized E-glass.
Manufactured by winding and volumizing continuous, unidirectional, untwisted strands of filaments into cylindrical packages.
R338 is compatible with unsaturated polyester, vinylester, epoxy and phenolic resins.
19. 19 Woven products Made by weaving direct roving.
Typically used to improve the mechanical properties such as strength and impact resistance of GRP products.
Commonly used in alternate layers with chopped strand mats in the structural layers of laminates, and forms the primary structure of many large hand lay-up vessels.
In hand lay-up, the resulting laminates have generally about 40-50% glass by weight.
Almost any weave pattern can be woven with glass products, plain weave being the most common.
Twill and satin weaves are highly drapeable.
Unidirectional (the number of threads is considerably higher in one direction than in the other) weaves are most suitable for applications where greater strength is needed in one specific direction.
