2. What is the purpose of fcat 2.0? • The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test measures student achievement in constructing meaning from a wide variety of texts. Basically, it tests how well you can comprehend and analyze something you read. • There are two types of texts: literary and informational. In 10th grade, 30% of texts are literary and 70% are informational. • This test is taken on the computer and is broken up into two sessions, one session taken per day. • There are between 50-55 questions altogether.

How hard are the questions? • Questions are broken into three basic categories: easy, average, and challenging. • It’s important to remember that there will be questions that you are NOT expected to answer correctly. • EASY: • 1-step problem • AVERAGE: • Multiple steps • CHALLENGING: • Analyze & synthesize information

Average questions: Average questions are Think& Search questions- they ask you to use context clues or word structure to identify meanings and determine multiple meanings or determine and interpret information such as: main idea plot, relationships, theme, interpret information in text features. • Which statement best expresses the main idea of this article? • Art forms are fads that are enjoyed temporarily. • Personal preferences influence musical appreciation. • The value of music lies in how it enhances human lives. • The success of an artist is measured by future generations.

8. Challenging questions: Challenging questions ask you to analyze and evaluate information from multiple passages or parts of a text, including text features. You will be asked to: analyze the effect of figurative language, determine how text features contribute to the meaning of a text, evaluate strong and weak arguments, describe common themes across texts, identify and analyze words and phrases with Greek/Latin derivations. • According to the essay, the client’s most notable quality is his • Desire for a peaceful vacation. • Enthusiasm for a new experience. • Admiration for nature’s array of colors. • Appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
