State and Federal Regulatory Action Lynnhaven Bay, Broad and Linkhorn Bay Watersheds Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Report for Shellfish Areas Listed Due to Bacteria Contamination • Final Report March 2004 • EPA Approval August 2004 • State Water Control Board December 2004
Levels of Sewerage Treatment • Type I Marine Sanitation Devices discharge at no more than 1,000 Fecal Coliform colonies per 100 ml with no visible floating solids • Type II Marine Sanitation Devices discharge at no more than 200 Fecal Coliform colonies per 100 ml and no more than 150 mg/l suspended solids • No Discharge Zone prohibits these discharges
Virginia Department of Health Requirements • By reference, the shellfish standard for Fecal Coliform is 14 per 100 ml. • The swimmable/fishable standard was Fecal Coliforms at 200 per 100 ml; is now enterococcus at 104 per 100 ml
