FLOWCHART OF LEVELS English course for Young Learners ages 8 through 12
SP 1 • 8-year-olds > 2nd grade at school • Course book: English Adventure 1
SP 2 • 9-year-olds > 3rd grade at school • Course book: English Adventure 2
SP 3 • 10-year-olds > 4th grade at school • Course book: English Adventure 3
SP4 • 11-year-olds > 5th grade at school • Course book: English Adventure 4
SP5 • 12-year-olds > 6th grade at school • Course book: English Adventure 5
Young learner’s course: • Annual levels • 5 years • Level: STARTER (RC1) through HIGH-BEGINNER (RC 4) • At the end of all the levels, the student skips Basic and Beginner levels • If the student covers SPlevels only, he/she is able to skip RC (1 & 2) on to the Beginner level. (see flowchart)

Limit activities to a maximum of 20 minutes Constantly revise and recycle language Provide activities that develop abilities to cooperate/share Focus on oral skills TEACHING CHILDREN
Because children... Have lots of energy and are sometimes clumsy Cannot comprehend abstractions Cannot analyze language Have a natural instinct for playing and fun You should... Let them move! (TPR) Use concrete references (realia/cards) Use meaningful and memorable contexts and teach grammar implicitly Provide activities that are fun! (games/ songs/ pen&paper/drama/video) TEACHING CHILDREN

THE OBJECTIVES: • To develop a positive attitude to English – stimulating and fun contexts • To present activities and materials which allow students to explore different topics and concepts • To cater to varied learning styles • To encourage students to take an active role in their learning and to reflect on their progress • To establish a solid basis
ORGANIZATION: • 8 Units consisting of 6 lessons each. • Lesson 1 – Presentation (good for role-play) • Lesson 2 – Vocabulary input / vocabulary practice (controlled practice) • Lesson 3 – Story (Disney Characters) • Lesson 4 – Active practice of vocabulary / Pronunciation practice • Lesson 5 – Song / target structure analysis (grammar) • Lesson 6 – Extended reading practice / project
LESSON STRUCTURE: • Each lesson: 45 minutes/1 hour • Warm-up • Presentation • Story/song/communication: games, ask-and-answer activities • Consolidation – recapitulation • Workbook • Optional activity
