  3. The Node.js Environment • A runtime environment platform built on Chrome's JavaScript runtime • Acts as a library for executing JavaScript on the server-side • Uses Google V8, Google’s open source JavaScript engine to execute code • Runs equally well on Linux and Windows operating systems

Features of Node.js • The event-driven model used by Node.js is a non-blocking I/O model • Gives excellent results for real-time applications installed on distributed systems • Supports varied devices • Increase efficiency and maximize throughput by using non-blocking I/O and asynchronous events • The file and network events are multi threaded but the applications run on a single-thread
