The River is the 2nd largest river in the UK. It is currently 346km (215 miles). The width of the Thames also increases the further downstream you go. Whitstable and Foulness Point, the estuary is 29 km (18 miles) across. How long is it?
There are many reasons why it’s very famous. • It is next to the very famous Big Ben. • It passes St Paul’s cathedral. • It is in the capital of England. • It is a very long river. Why is it so famous?
The first bridge in the capital was located where the current London Bridge stands. It has been rebuilt many times since the Romans first constructed a river crossing there around 2,000 years ago. Before engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette built London's sewer system, much of the capital's waste was dumped in the river. When was it discovered?
