History of Grease • Originally a play with incidental music • Incidental Music • Music that is performed during the show but not used to move the story line along • Can also be background music • It was performed off-Broadway for a year • Its success lead to a Broadway premiere on June 7, 1972

  4. Danny Zuko • Leader of the T-Birds • High school “bad boy” • Falls in love with Sandy

  5. Sandy Olsen • Exchanged student from Australia • High school “goody-two-shoes” • Falls in love with Danny Zuko

  6. Rizzo • Leader of the Pink Ladies • Portrays a “bad-girl” image • In love with Kenickie

  7. Frenchy • Member of the Pink Ladies • Befriends Sandy and invites her to join the Pink Ladies • Drops out of high school to go to Beauty School

  8. Kenickie • Second in command of the T-Birds • In love with Rizzo

  9. Teen Angel • “Guardian Angel” to Frenchy • He advices her to leave Beauty School because she is no good at what she does

Synopsis • Takes place at Rydell High School in the 1950’s • Sandy and Danny meet the summer before school starts and fall in love • Sandy is supposed to go back to Australia but enrolls at Rydell High School as an exchange student • Sandy re-meets Danny and realizes he is not the same person she fell in love with over the summer

  12. Synopsis (cont.) • Sandy becomes friends with the Pink Ladies • Throughout the movie, each character faces their own conflict • Danny begins to realize he actually does like Sandy • Danny and Sandy work to impress each other
