  3. Common Errors • Communication styles affect how we are perceived by others • There are nine sins of communication • If you do one, time to re-evaluate

  4. Nine Deadly Sins • Narcissism- “ I am right and I am the best” • Arrogance- inflate self, deflate others • Status Seekers – Name Droppers, Achievement Droppers • Jargon Addiction • Adjective Impairment – under or overuse

  5. Nine Deadly Sins Cont’d • Soft Speaking- Manipulation/Shy-> not listening • Speaking Very Slowly- deliberate talking • Banality- Asking trivial questions, but not really listening • Missing the Point

  6. Questions for Discussion • Which sin, do you think you commit the most? • What suggestions can you give for changing each communication style?

  7. Action • Set aside a section of your notebook for introspection and reflection. This will become your reflection journal. • Put today’s date on the first page • Write what communication sins you commit, what you think about it and what you will do to change it
