Marshall Artist Series Group Event By: Jonathan Brewster and Dusty Sanders
Artist Series Event: • Michael McDonald • Performed November 17, 2011 • At the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center
Opening Performance • Singer: Rick Huckaby • Bio: Raised in West Virginia, Huckaby spent years entertaining fellow students in college clubs before moving to Nashville in 1996. He has since released several albums and his song “Ain’t Enough Blacktop” was the winner of the 2008 billboard World Song Contest.
The Main Event • Singer: Michael McDonald • Bio: Singer and Songwriter Michael McDonald was born in 1952. He originally tried to play the banjo or guitar but eventually fell in love with the black and white keys of the piano. He began playing big with Steely Dan. Eventually though, he left Steely Dan to play for The Doobie Brothers. Since the Doobie Brothers he has released several solo albums and earned 5 Grammies.
Group Experience • This concert was certainly an interesting experience for the group. This type of concert is not necessarily the type of show we enjoyed, and it was not really what we expected. It was obvious that there was huge talent in the building between Michael and Rick, and as a group we could appreciate their skill regardless of their style of music. It was definitely a “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” kind of experience.
