Sign-Up Procedure CARTS MAY NOT BE SIGNED OUT BY OR FOR A SUBSTITUTE (Year III Science is an exception). (Long term subs) 1. To check availability and sign-up for a laptop/ipad cart see the teacher who is managing the cart for your hallway. A calendar will be kept with each cart to be used for reservations. If your plans change, let the managing teacher know ASAP so another teacher can use the cart. (Year III check Google Calendar) 2. Year III-V science teachers have priority use of the science carts. 3. Remember, the non-science carts are on a “first-come, first-serve” basis; use should not be dominated by one staff member.
Pick-Up Laptop/ipad Cart • 1. Science carts housed in the media center must be picked up by the managing teacher. The teacher who has reserved the cart will pick it up from the managing teacher. Year I and Pod carts will be checked out directly from the managing teacher. • 2. The laptop and ipad cart housed in the media center should be reserved by using the media center reservation link on the media center webpage. The teacher who reserves the cart will be the person who picks it up and returns it. • 3. NO STUDENT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MAY TRANSPORT CARTS. • 4. Place cart near electrical outlet, out of high traffic areas, and easily accessible (away from obstacles). • 5. Individual computers may NOT be shared with another teacher. All computers must remain in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher responsible for the cart for the day.
Distributing Laptops or ipads to Students • The tech leader on each team will provide a laptop lesson for each class at the beginning of the year, ensure that the WFCS Acceptable Use Agreement is signed by students and parents/guardians and review the agreement with students. (Typically Science III teachers) • 1. Review the Student Rules and Expectations (app. A) prior to distribution. • 2. If students are to remove laptop from cart individually, have small groups of 2-3 approach the cart at a time based on assigned numbers or small groups. • 3. A student must use the same laptop at every session in your classroom. This should promote student responsibility because the computer is attached specifically to his/her name. The laptops are all numbered for easy distribution. • 4. Please use the form provided to assign laptops to students for each class period. • 5. The key to the cart should be kept in a secure location (teacher pocket, desk drawer, etc.) It should not be left accessible to students. • 6. During lunch and planning, the computers can be charged if needed. Plug the two sets of cords into different outlets if possible.
Log-Off and Retrieve Laptops 1. LOG OFF the laptops with at least five minutes left in the period. 2. Wait until the Login screen appears, close the lid, then you can move the laptop. 3. Laptops/ipads should be completely shut down during lunch and at the end of the school day. 4. Each student should personally insert their assigned laptop/ipad into the cart. (This allows the teacher to count computers prior to students leaving the room.) ***Under no circumstances should laptops/ipads be left on desks between classes. 5. When the laptop/ipad is to be returned to the cart, during lunch or at the end of the day, it should be shut down and reconnected to the power cable for recharging.
Returning the Laptop Cart • 1. Please take inventory on all cart laptops/ipads at the end of each period and at the end of the school day. • 2. Check to be sure all computers are shut down and are plugged in for charging. Each cord is labeled to match the computer. • 3. The key should be put back in the cart. Return the cart to the managing teacher no later than 3:30. The cart should never be left in your classroom overnight
Reporting Problems and Requesting Maintenance • 1. Each class period, ask students to observe any problems with their assigned computer and report to teacher. This process will allow any troubles to be identified more quickly and to narrow the pool of misusers. • 2. Report laptop hardware, network connection errors or other technical problems to the managing teacher at the end of the day and record the issue(s) on the error report log attached to the cart. • 3. The cart manager will enter the damage or problem through the googledoc link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/132Jx-W6PSDff9ChxihK_cW0gynV9lSEXwhJsIQrWaVk/viewform ) in Symbaloo, ( http://www.symbaloo.com/ ) to alert Lucy.
Special Note ** Failure to comply with the guidelines could result in the revocation of use of the computer (student) or cart (teacher).
