2014-2017 Yokohama Mid-Term 4-Year Plan ○Setting pillars of policy for each future urban development strategy Strategy 1: Developing in a way that brings out each person’s full potential Strategy 2: Achieving economic growth and becoming a circular energy city Strategy 3: Regenerating a city packed with appeal and activity Strategy 4: Building a tenacious city for the future 2025 Target 3 Policy Pillars 1. Nurturing growth sectors/reinforcing centers of industry 2. Stimulating urban agriculture 3. Promoting energy measures Tokyo Olympics/ Paralympics Target 2 Complete the strategy 2017 Target 1 Show off Yokohama to the world Make steady strategic progress The ideal Yokohama Future urban development strategies (fiscal year)
Toward a Circular Energy City Circular Energy City Community bicycles Solar power generation Yokohama is assertively introducing renewable energy and other technology to generate more energy in the city and use it efficiently and effectively. Deployment of Fuel Cells Promoting Introduction of Home Fuel Cells • Home fuel cell (Ene-Farm) introduction figures (as of March 2015) • → approx. 7,700 in Yokohama (approx. 38,000 nationwide) • A unique “cogeneration system” generates power from the fuel cell and uses heat to boil water Using Hydrogen at the New City Hall Electricity City gas • Fuel cells will be introduced in the new city hall building to be used from 2020 Hot water Water Source: Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems Corp.
Promoting Introduction of Fuel Cell Forklifts We are considering introducing this technology in the Keihin coastal area through a partnership between related companies and municipalities. • In addition to CO2-free hydrogen manufacturing using electricity generated by the Yokohama City Wind Power Plant, we will launch an initiative to build and demonstrate an integrated system from storage to transport to use. • Our aim is to contribute to future regional development and global warming countermeasures. Renewable energy electricity Hydrogen manufacturing Storage/compression Transport Use New facilities on the premises of Hama Wing Substation/distribution/storage facilities Keihin coastal area 水素圧縮機 (50N㎥/h) Hydrogen (H2) Partial use Substation/distribution board Energy storage battery system Substation (already in place) Hydrogen storage/compression equipment Hydrogen manufacturing equipment Yokohama City Wind Power Plant – “Hama Wing” (1,980kW) Hydrogen compressor Simple hydrogen filling trucks Fuel cell forklift FIT power sold (partial) • Fruit and vegetable markets • Refrigerated warehouses • Logistics warehouses • etc. Hydrogen storage tank Hydrogen (H2) Backup Cooperative electricity Water electrolysis equipment Water (H2O) Existing infrastructure Hydrogen supply from simple filling trucks (optimal transport reflecting operational conditions and needs) Backup hydrogen 13
Spread of Hydrogen Use Prepared by the City of Yokohama based on the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy’s June 2014 Strategic Roadmap for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells and other materials. FCVs, etc. Reforming from fossil fuels such as natural gas From personal vehicles to public transportation and commercial/industrial vehicles Buses Forklifts Scooters FCV Hydrogen Byproducts from ironworks, chemical plants, etc. Fuel cells From home to business and industry Source: Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Source: Panasonic Source: Toshiba Fuel Cell Power Systems Corp. • Sources of renewable energy • Water electrolysis • Reforming from methane gas Hydrogen power generation, etc. Liquefied hydrogen Organic hydride Toward a new, two-dimensional energy structure adding hydrogen to the current heat and electricity Overseas • The technology of companies and expertise of universities in Yokohama possess great potential for each of the stages in manufacturing, transporting/storing and using hydrogen. 14
