  5. Points to remember • Rubbing from distal to proximal parts as it facilitates venous blood flow • Warm water dilate blood vessels • Washing removes MO’s and dead cells • Excessive washing has negative effect removing oils • Opportunity to assess individual • Physical and psychosocial

  6. Equipment • Towels • Face washers • Soap and soap dish • Basin • Toiletries • Bath blanket • Clothes • Additional bed linen • Bed pan • Water

  7. Procedure • Environment • No drafts • Privacy • Body mechanics • Bath mitt • Retains water and heat • Wash rinse dry

  8. Wash eyes • Inner to outer canthus • Wash face ( soap?) • Wash each arm with a towel underneath • Long firm strokes • Wash axilla • Soak hands • Interdigital spaces

  22. Dentures • Must be removed at night and soaked in water in denture container • Cleaned using warm water, toothbrush and tooth paste • Handled with care • Gloves to be worn • Provide mouth care before replacing dentures • Moisten dentures to facilitate insertion • Label all dentures

  23. Teeth/Dentures • Brush four times a day • Removes food particles and stimulates gums • Do not use hot water on dentures as it may change shape • Label all dentures • Handle dentures with care • Floss daily if possible • Visit dentist every 6 months
