What is a Regional Training Provider (RTP) ? • ASN accredited by FIA Institute to train other ASNs around the world, with support from the Motor Sport Safety Development Fund. • RTP initiative a cornerstone of the Institute's Officials Safety Training Programme • Achieved by demonstrating the highest standards of volunteer management

  3. What is an RTP (Contd) • ASN can apply for grant to support the implementation of projects aimed at raising the standards of motors sport officials in their country • Important in developing countries where the motor sport infrastructure at grass roots level needs guidance and support. • Also important for developed ASNs who wish to raise their standard and get accreditation with FIA Institute (bronze, silver or gold)

  4. Background • 3 RTP’s in the world • CAMS – Australia • MSA – UK • RFEDA -- Spain • Identified gap in our region • Sport growing at a rapid rate • Region needs guidance and support in grassroots motorsports • Approached FIA Institute • Institute outlined framework for accreditation

Identified what we have • A rich heritage + learned from various trainers: TOSFED, BARC, BMF, CAMS and Hungary = developed UAE style with contribution from others • Dedicated senior officials • Strong volunteer base • 1,000 registered and growing daily • 64 nationalities • Good management structure in place for volunteers • Good infrastructure/facilities • Good geographical location with airport hubs

  6. Approach • Studied and analysed Institutes officials best practice framework • Identified our strengths and areas for improvement • Realised we were in good position yet there was a lot of work ahead of us • Formalised processes that were already in place

Approach (Contd) • Realigned our Volunteer Management Program against the FIA Institute’s best practice framework, focusing on; • Competency based training • best training delivery practices • training curriculum and plan • developing senior officials to trainers and assessors • Program structure • formalizing the terms of reference between the Club and officials’ committee, • formalizing / developing programme specific policies such as licensing and remuneration

Implementation • Were granted Institute funding for ‘Train the Trainer’ program • Engaged CAMS – RTP as our partner • Promoted 53 senior officials as trainers • Formalised training curriculums to cater for all levels from introductory to senior official status • Formalised training calendar to dovetail with goal of preparation for the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix.

Implementation (Contd) • Further developed relationship with our academic partners, University of Ulster to conduct assessors training • Successfully accredited 17 trainer assessors • Developed 15 stand alone safety training modules • UAE Department of Youth and Sport have evaluated and accredited the 15 modules

  10. Future • Aim to achieve RTP status - Q1, 2012 • Ability to transfer our knowledge to any ASN in the world • Particular ability to assist with Arabic speaking ASN’s in MENA region with; • 53 trainers, speaking 12 languages • 17 trainer assessors • Ability to advise ASN’s who currently have no infrastructure on how to develop their sport from zero • Ability to tailor courses to ASN needs • Ability to advise and assist with motorsport safety development funding applications
