UNIT STUDIES • “A Unit Study is a method of organizing a child's learning experiences within a framework of a single topic or theme” (Knapp). • Created through the use of: • Library materials • The internet • Resource books
School-at-Home School-at-Home Curriculum consists of a complete set of materials designed to teach all subjects at a specific grade level. Closest to education format of public schools.
PROS • Curriculum molded specifically to the student’s individual need • An instruction who knows the student and can personally work with him/her in the best possible manner • Possibilities for accelerated education • Homeschoolers out-test public schoolers when it comes to standardized testing
CONS • Homeschooling parents have to solely except responsibility for their children’s education • Homeschoolers have to avoid getting lost in the hundreds of possible options for at home instruction • Homeschoolers and homeschooling parents have to accept the roles as student and teacher.
