  5. MICHIGAN WORKS AGENCIES (MWA) • 25 agencies, 100 centers • Regionally customized • Demand-driven • Responsible for services to employers and jobseekers • Led by local workforce boards

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD • Design a system that meets customers’ (industry, employer, jobseeker) needs • Oversight responsibilities • Use influence to affect the expenditure of all workforce development resources in a local area • Coordinates workforce development with economic development • Blends private and public membership to represent community

  8. EMPLOYER SERVICES • Employee recruitment assistance • Postings on MI’s largest job bank • Applicant hiring assistance • Interviewing facilities • LMI on local workforce • Assistance with mass layoffs and closings • Start-up, retention, and expansion services • Training opportunities

  9. EMPLOYER SERVICES cont. • INCUMBENT WORKER TRAINING • Funding is made available directly to the employer • Services include: skill upgrades and training for current workers, testing, evaluation, etc. • Program is designed to make businesses more profitable and increase employee skills.

  10. PRIMARY JOB SEEKER SERVICESAvailable to all • Career and training information (LMI) • Skill assessments • Resume writing and other workshops • Labor exchange on MI’s largest job bank • Education and financial aid information • Referrals to other organizations

  11. JOB SEEKER: TRAINING SERVICES Available based on eligibility: • Occupational skills training • On-the-job training • Skill upgrading and retraining • Job readiness training • Customized training
