# What Is Buoyancy? • Balloons rise due to upward force called buoyancy . The same force that causes objects and people to float in water
# What keeps the balloon from rising indefinitely? • Because air becomes cooler and less dense at higher elevations , the balloon is lifted higher and higher . Some mechanism is needed to stop its ascent.
# Why is air called a fluid? • Because They Both: • Flow easily. • Conforms to the shape of its container. • Has particles that move easily and can change their relative position without diving their mass. • Yields readily to pressure.
# How and why do hot air balloons and airships adjust their internal air pressure? • Balloons are subject to another force that pushes against them from all directions . The force is called atmospheric pressure . At sea level , the air applies 14.7 pounds of pressure per inch square of surface area on everything it touches , including humans ! The balloon’s lifting gas must overcome air pressure in order to rise into the sky .Air pressure is stronger at the ground where is warmest and decreases as the balloon rises into cooler temperatures.
# Which balloon would meet with less atmospheric pressure one launched in Denver or one launched in new Orleans ? Why ? Which would have the lesser amount of gravity to over come? Why? • In Denver because it is warmest and hot and the pressure is going to be stronger , and in New Orland's sea level its more hummed and will not rise up that much and have less power . While in Denver it is going to have less amount of gravity because it warmest so it will be easier to take off
