  3. Daily Class Requirements • Be prepared for class: • science binder • writing instruments • calculator • assignments due that day • You must have your Earth Science Reference Table (E.S.R.T.) for class everyday.

  4. Daily Conduct Rules • Be respectful of other students and school property. • No food, drinks (except water), and gum allowed. • Bring a positive attitude. • Do not interfere with a student’s right to learn. • Follow lab safety rules and directions at all times. • Clean up after yourselves.

  5. Books Textbook:McDougal & Littel Earth Science -This book is issued at the beginning of the year and must stay home -Assigned reading and homework from this textbook (which may involve the use of the Internet) Amsco Review Book: Reviewing Earth Science: The Physical Setting 3rd Edition Thomas McGuire -This book is purchased by the student and supplements the Earth Science Regents course. The book highlights important Regents topics and contains sample Regents questions and tests for students to practice. Barrons Review Book: Let’s Review: Earth Science The Physical Setting. Barron’s Educational Series, Inc. (3rd Edition) -This book is OPTIONAL

  6. Grading • Based on a Point System • Your child can monitor their science progress on the Aspen portal. • Points are assigned to: • Quizzes/Tests (70%) • Laboratory Reports (15%) • Homework, Classwork, Projects (15%) • Assignments are due on dates posted in the classroom and Mr. Tom’s webpage • Students are responsible for any missed work that they were absent from. • Work one day overdue late penalties will be assessed. • Work two days overdue will receive no credit. • Copying and cheating is not tolerated. Any student caught copying or cheating will result in no credit and possible disciplinary action.

  7. Extra Help • I will be available for extra help every morning at 7:30 am. • Your child must come with specific questions. • Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question!

  8. Regents Exam • Regents Earth Science has a state lab requirement. • Students must accumulate 1200 minutes to be eligible to sit for the NYS regents exam. • Regents Exam is given in June. • Written portion • Lab Performance portion (taken a week prior to written exam) • consist of 3 station tasks (9 minutes to perform each task) • Students’ Regents exam score and year average will be posted on high school transcript.
