  4. The Eight is Great Challenge • Research shows that… • 8 hours of practice on Khan Academy results in an average 90 point increase • 20 hours of practice on Khan Academy is associated with an average115 point increase This is nearly double the average gain without Khan Academy

Be College Ready for the SAT Today’s Goals: • Understand the rationale for practicing with Khan Academy to improve PSAT/SAT scores • Learn to access the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy • Link College Board accounts (score reports) to Khan Academy • Begin the challenge: Increase your scores a minimum of 90 pts.

  6. Now, Remember back in the day… last year’s PSAT/SAT School Day? Let’s look at those score reports. To know what you need to practice, you first have to know where you are starting from!

  7. Sign in or create your College Board Account Step 1: Sign into your College Board Account. https://k12reports.collegeboard.com

  8. Download your Score Report You want to download the report that is from Fall 2017. Download your report

  9. Report Details Your downloaded report should have 4 pages that look like this

Students who are unable to retrieve College Board account • Students should not create multiple College Board accounts • If a student cannot retrieve their College Board account they should do the following: • Sign in to their Student Portal and access PSAT/SAT scores to manually enter into Khan Academy • Call College Board Student Hotline at 866-433-7728 to retrieve previously created account and scores

  13. Student Reflection on your Score Refer to your Reflection Sheet Answer the following questions on your worksheet: What is your total score for math? What is your total score for Evidence Based Reading and Writing? Do your scores meet the college ready benchmarks?

  16. National Merit Scholarship National Merit Scholarships are worth $2500 and awarded to juniors who are finalists. Qualifying NMSC Score to be a semi-finalist in Texas = 221

  17. How to Meet Scholarship Requirements Does this student qualify to be a semi finalist? Step 1: Divide Texas Qualifying score by 2 (221 / 2 = 110.5) Step 2: Divide 110.5 by 3 (110.5 / 3 = 36.83 Step 3: Compare your test scores in Reading, Writing and Language and Math to 36.83. Your scores must be equal or higher to this number to qualify.

Research shows that just 8 hours of practice on KA results in an average 90 point gain. 20 hours of practice on KA is associated with an average 115-pt increase in the scores, nearly double the average gain without KA Increase your score on average by 90 points on the SAT by practicing at least 8 total hours on Khan Academy.

  20. Students: You Khan Do It! Your teacher (Coach) will provide you with an Access Code to join their class so they can track your progress If you cannot retrieve your previous scores, take a pre-test on Kahn Academy once you’ve linked to College Board and it will automatically identify those areas you need to work on. Commit to making time to practice on Khan Academy prior to the October 10th test date

  21. Build a path to college readiness • Commit to practicing daily. Meet the Superintendent’s Challenge. • Share your score reports with your parents. Once you understand it, teach your parents how to read and understand your report. • Go see your counselors or teachers for assistance with College Board and Khan. The Go Center, College Transition Teacher, as well as websites like College Board, Khan Academy, You Tube – college readiness can be useful tools. • Improve your scores each time you test. • Take challenging classes. Work on those essays! • Use your time wisely to prepare for college. • Send your scores by the college early admission date and raise your chances of getting accepted.
