FORMULA TO CALCULATE STOPPING DISTANCE Assuming Reaction Time is 2.5 Seconds • Reaction Distance V = Velocity • Braking Distance Assuming grade is 0% V = Velocity • Total Distance = R + B
SCENARIO 1: If you are driving 34 mph and see a cat in the road 200 feet ahead will you stop in time to avoid hitting the cat?
SCENARIO 2: You are driving 48 mph and see a mother duck and her ducklings crossing the road 550 feet ahead. If you stop now, will you be able to stop in time to avoid hitting them?
