  1. 2021 – 2024 COMPETITION STRUCTURE

  2. Strategic Objectives Introduction of a second individual discipline with a higher number of athletes in Paris 2024. Clear event structure to provide global opportunities to market the events on World and Continental levels. Accessible formats to include developing countries on a high-performance level. Optimizing the presentation and presence of the sport via television and digital media to a global audience. Strengthen the relationship with Age-Group athletes and the triathlon fans.

  3. Competition Structure World Triathlon Series continues, World Championship titles to the winners of the series in elite. Terminologies be reviewed during a re-branding. Three-tiers of events: WTS World Cup Continental Cup The Mixed Relay also integral part, combined with WTS and World Cups. The Mixed Relay World Championships as a one-day event.

Number of events Number of events: * There is no limitation regarding the number of Junior Continental Cups, Regional Championships and Development Events. ** Including the Mixed Relay World Championships. *** The number of events to remain, but the further limitations of the start lists will require the numbers.

  5. Points system of the World Ranking Exact details to follow. A ranking rewarding based on performance irrelevant to the level of the event and the continent. Significantly increase the points for the Continental Championships. Using the decrease percentage (the percentage number which is implemented by how many percent less is the value of next position in a ranking table).

  7. Calendar World Triathlon Series and World Triathlon Championships between 1st March and 31st October - exceptions. Continental Cups and Championships may be held outside of this period. No World Triathlon Series and World Triathlon Cup held on the same weekend. Not two World Triathlon Series held on the same weekend. In case two World Triathlon Cups on the same weekend, to be held on two different continents. World Triathlon Series events to be grouped as Africa/Middle-East, Asia/Oceania, Europe and America.

Distances Core distances: • Standard Distance: 1500m swim / 40km cycle / 10 km run • Sprint Distance: 750m swim / 20km cycle / 5 km run • Super-Sprint Distance: 300m swim / 8km cycle / 2 km run Decisions on distances will be exclusively done by ITU also considering the suitability of the venue/courses. The Super-Sprint distance to be used on semi-final/final or eliminator final format.

  9. Field sizes The size of the fields may vary based on the distance of the event, instead of the level of the event. Standard Distance: 60 athletes Sprint Distance: 50 athletes Super-Sprint Distance: 30 athletes * * Semi-final / Final events can have 60 athletes in 2 semi-final heats regardless of the distance. ** Junior Continental Triathlon/World Triathlon Championships and Junior Continental Triathlon Cup events may have up to 70 athletes.

  10. Categories Categories: * ITU will continue not to have Youth World Championships, but it is still an option on Continental Championships level for individual and mixed relay. It is recommended to have it on super-sprint semi-final/final and mixed relay formats.

  11. Paris 2024 proposalS Standard Distance - EXISTING Mixed Relay – NEW IN TOKYO • All the NOCs are eligible with minimum 2 men and 2 women. Super-Sprint - NEW • Top 30 athletes to qualify • 300m swim / 8km cycle / 2 km run • Eliminator format - 3 rounds of super-sprint triathlons. • The last 10 eliminated after each round. • Starts in 30 minutes, total of 90 minutes.

  12. Terminology / innovations Various terminologies to be reviewed, as part of the wider rebrand exercise. Deeper evaluations of various innovative solutions, in order to reach out to new audience and make the sport more understandable for a wider group of people: • Introduction of official course records; • Digital solutions during events: GPS tracking, athletes performance (heart rate, watts, etc.); • On-board cameras; • Leader/World Champion/Continental Champion jersey/identification. • TO assistancetools - RaceRanger
