  3. Getting ready for FNTR • International students/employees are required to file a Federal tax return. • Foreign National Tax Resource will determine if you are a resident or non-resident alien for tax purposes. If it is determined that you are a non-resident alien, the program will allow you to continue creating your 1040NR tax return. • If it is determined that you are a resident alien, you will not be allowed to use FNTR and will have to complete a 1040 or 1040-EZ federal tax return. You can learn how to file a 1040 or 1040-EZ at www.irs.gov .  • YOU MUST FILE YOUR RETURN BY: APRIL 15 2019 Tax Documents Needed: • W-2 – Earnings statement (required) • 1042-s – Recipient of an unqualified scholarship (if applicable)

  4. Before you get started • Place your W-2’s in front of you ready to view. • Wesleyan assigns a temporary social security number on your w-2 for the purpose of reporting wages. The assigned number is a combination of 888 and your wes id number. • Look at the social security number listed on your W-2. • If you have not applied for an ssn the number listed should be 888 and your wes id. You must apply for an ssn, see Janice Watson in ISO office. • If you received your SSN the number listed on the w-2 should be your ssn. If the ssn is incorrect, notify someone during this session and/or contact the Payroll Office at payroll@wesleyan.edu. Payroll will need to provide you a W-2c to make the correction. Note ~ You cannot complete your filing without the corrected form.
